Why can't people take responsibility for their own actions?

I went to show a foreclosure property in an estate neighborhood where the properties are over a million dollars on 3+ acre lots.  Generally when I go to homes that have been foreclosed on the problem I have is that I feel the need to shower afterwards because the previous owners tend to live in filth.  The carpets are generally nasty with all sorts of drink and food spills, showers are moldy and unclean, etc.  The lights are taken sometimes, the washer and dryer are missing but nothing really crazy.  This property was extremely clean but I have never seen so much stuff stolen before.  It was actually quite humorous (sad but humorous).  Here is a list of the items removed from the property some was unbelievable to me:

  1. Both garbage disposals (this was a first for me)
  2. All the knobs on the kitchen cabinets (I have seen this before)
  3. The double oven
  4. The warming drawer
  5. Two dishwashers
  6. The built-in wall unit in the office (This is just vendictive because the unit was so large that it couldn't have been hauled away)
  7. All light fixtures
  8. The Medallion above the light fixture that would have been nailed to the ceiling in the great room (You would have had to rent scaffolding or a crazy tall ladder to be able to get this thing off the ceiling.  It cost them money to do this.)  - I actually noticed this because I could see where it had been painted around.
  9. All of the speakers throughout the house in the ceilings and the screen in the media room which was one that electronically moves up and down.
  10. Three of the four garage door openers.

The owners who were foreclosed on bought the house for $1.5 Million so they apparently were living outside of their means.  Maybe if they bought a $900k-$1M house they would still be living in it and able to pay their mortgage.  Why people need to punish the bank for their own greed is beyond me.  If you go into foreclosure take responsibility for your own actions and don't destroy property.
