Reasons Why Northern Virginia is a Great Place to Live - Snickers Gap Christmas Tree Farms
The nice thing about living in Northern Virginia is that we have all of the ammenities, and shopping of a major city being so close to Washington, DC. Yet at the same time we can drive 30-45 minutes and be in beautiful farm land. Every year since I was little we had a tradition of driving out west to cut down the family Christmas tree. Years ago before the Dulles Toll Road, Fairfax County Parkway and other major roads were built it was quite a hike and half day plus activity. We would always go out to brunch afterwards at the local diner because there was nothing else around. Now with all of the development we have easy access out to the further towns in Loudoun County. Our favorite place to go is the Snickers Gap Cristmas Tree Farm on the Slope of the Blue Ridge in Round Hill, VA. It is 1/2 mile North of Route 7 on Route 711 near Bluemont, VA. Only 16 miles West of Leesburg and 18 miles East of Winchester. The address is 34350 Willimas Gap Road, Round Hill, VA 20141 and it does show up on my cars navigation system.

The Christmas Tree Farm will be OPEN DAILY from November 27th through December 23rd. Their HOURS for 2009: M-F Noon to dark, every Saturday & Sunday 9am to dark, open 9am to dark Friday November 27th. They have 40,000 trees in various stages of growth - thousands of their trees are over 9 feet, with many taller. They specialize in Douglas Fir and Colorado Blue Spruce, and also grow Norway Spruce. Voted "Best Christmas tree farm in Loudoun County." You choose & cut. Free use of saw, pulling rope, machine shaking to clean your tree, netting, drilling for "stand straigt" tree strands, twine, and wagon ride to gravel based parking lot. The kids love the complimentary hot mulled cider! You can also buy your wreath, garlands and swags.

We went today and the weather was especially nice. I think it is the first time that I have ever taken my coat off because I was sweating. As an added bonus they were having a wine tasting from nearby vineyard Bluemont Vineyard http://www.bluemontvineyard.com. I thought their Merlot and Norton were good so I bought a bottle of each.
